About Us
Honouring the power of the body’s wisdom to help you
parent with more confidence, compassion and ease
Welcome!
Are you committed to being a peaceful parent, but still find yourself behaving in ways you feel ashamed of? Are you anxious about how your teenagers can safely navigate this increasingly complex world? You are in the right place. We are passionate about teaching embodiment, because the body is the source of our capacity to regulate, connect, empathise and make smarter decisions, but its often the missing link in other trainings. We are committed to closing that gap, through offering accessible tools and practices that support you through your parenting challenges.
Our Story
Embodied Families is the platform for Jane and Kirstie’s collaborative projects. Between us, we have have had as many varied experiences of family life as we have cooked hot dinners; from single-parenting to special-needs parenting, children joining the family through fostering, adoption, and birth, and witnessing their extraordinary and unique transitions from birth through to adulthood.
And though our experiences differ, we share common parenting concerns, and we connected through our shared values, visions and passion for teaching an embodied approach to parents, because body-centred practices have transformed our relationships; not only with our our families and communities, but with ourselves. We remain committed to our individual work, but together we challenge ourselves to grow stronger, braver and more influential than we could ever manage to be alone. We look forward to passing on what we have learned to you, so a new generation can grow up wiser, more mindful, and resilient, with a true sense of belonging to their world.
Philosophy & Approach
Our approach is empowering, pragmatic and relational. We don’t subscribe to one parenting model, because there is no one-size-fits-all solution to every situation. Who we are being, and the quality of relationship in the moment, is what impacts the outcome, no matter what we choose to do or say.
When we feel calm, supported and connected, we can think and see more clearly, and access intuitive wisdom and insight; this is the state from which the wisest solution in that moment will naturally emerge. And our children benefit from internalising the experience of our own calm state, and through being truly seen and met.
That’s why we focus on presence and trust-building rather than behaviour management techniques, and prioritise grounded authenticity over perfectionism.
Helping Families Grow
& Learn Together
Why focus on the body?
Have you noticed that no matter how good your intentions are, or how many parenting books you’ve read, you still end up doing and saying everything you said you wouldn’t? That’s because you can’t change your mind with your mind alone, when our histories, habits and experiences are held in the body. Because it’s the body that holds the charge, it’s vital we being the whole of ourselves to our parenting and learning – our bodies, minds and spirits.
Embodied practice helps us transcend reactive patterns, and build skills that help us be more influential, such as holding compassionate boundaries. We stay connected to our values and what we care about, even when we are under pressure. We see choice and possibility instead of obstacles and limitations, so we don’t feel so easily defeated. We view mis-attunements as opportunities for mutual learning, growth and repair. The Embodied Families approach won’t solve all your parenting problems, but you can trust that you can parent more wisely, more often. Even when we remain clueless about the way forward, we no longer feel powerless with the lack of control and uncertainty. We trust that we already have everything we need to restore our balance and our senses.
